A weekend fire that destroyed a vacant Altoona home was arson.
City fire crews were called to 1313 17th Avenue around 1:45AM Sunday and found the structure engulfed in flames. Neighbors told fire inspector Mike Tofano that the home had been vacant for about two years.
There were no utilities connected to it. Firefighters were on scene for about four hours. A neighboring home suffered some heat damage. It’s the latest in a string of arsons to plague the city this spring. Altoona Police are assisting with the investigation.
