The Altoona Area School District has adopted a new “Base Pay Plan” for 53 central office and non-academic staff members.
The move passed in a 5-2 vote at Monday’s meeting – with two board members absent. Board members hired an outside firm to study and recommend a salary plan for ACT 93 workers after it surfaced earlier this year that Superintendent Dr. Dennis Murray had issued some pay raises without board approval.
Board member Cheryl Rupp was against the plan.
President Ryan Beers says he supported the new salary structure to bring uniformity to the schools Human Resources functions. He says the employees who were issued the illegal pay raises over the past few years have had their salaries red-lined.
