Accused Drug Dealer Recants Plea, Gets Trial

A local man who last September agreed to a plea deal for drug crimes, but has since recanted will now get his day in court.

On Thursday, Blair County Senior Judge Hiram Carpenter ruled that 52 year old Ken Piner of Altoona can withdraw his guilty pleas to 16 drug-related charges.

Last year Piner admitted to being part of a corrupt organization that in 2010 and 2011 brought large amounts of cocaine into Altoona from Baltimore to be distributed through the Corner Bar and Grille on 8th Avenue.

Piner later changed his tune saying he did sell small amounts of cocaine but wasn’t part of a conspiracy to bring the more significant quantities of drugs to the area.

Jury selection is set for Monday.
