Blair Explores Sharing 911 Resources with Other Counties

Blair County’s 911 director says he’s working with officials in seven other counties to hire a consultant who can identify ways to share resources.

Mark Taylor told county leaders on Tuesday the effort would not include talk of regionalizing 911 call centers. Taylor says instead the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency is encouraging local officials to begin sharing equipment and other technologies because of escalating costs.

Commissioner Diane Meling says the move makes fiscal sense because local taxpayers could foot some expensive bills once standing funding sources dwindle.

It will cost Blair County about $35-thousand for its portion of the study. The money won’t come from the county’s general fund. The project is expected to take several years to complete.
