Police departments all across Blair County have a new tool when it comes to fighting crime in dangerous situations.
The Association of Blair County Law Enforcement unveiled a new, armored tactical vehicle at a gang symposium Wednesday at the Casino in Lakemont. The vehicle is a former Brink’s armored transport vehicle that has been completely overhauled through the use of public donations.
The truck comes complete with collapsible running boards that allow officers to enter and exit the vehicle quickly. And it’s been retrofitted with tinted windows and a new paint job. The armored vehicle won’t be owned by any one municipality – it’s available for any law enforcement agency to use.
Officials say the truck is bulletproof and can be used to rescue officers and civilians caught in dangerous situations.
