Tom Shea says his department wanted to add a large addition to the former Moran Building at 705 8th Avenue – but he says prevailing wage rules have made the project too costly.
Shea says the satellite office won’t be able to host education classes as a result of the change – and fewer employees will be assigned to the building. Commissioner Terry Tomassetti blamed special interests groups keep lawmakers from addressing the prevailing wage issue. The project is being financed through supervision fees.
Officials hope to have the building opened by January 2014.
