Blair’s Updated Disposal Plan Includes Burning Ban
A 10-year update to Blair County’s Solid Waste Plan is asking officials in each of the county’s 24 municipalities to ban the burning of all recyclable materials.
Inter-Municipal Relation Committee director John Frederick presented the document to county leaders on Tuesday. Frederick says the plan ensures there is enough disposal capacity for the future – and it also addresses recycling, composting and waste-reduction issues.
Frederick says it’s his goal to get more people to recycle – and that includes a countywide ban on the burning of recyclable materials.
The ban would have to be approved by each municipality. Commissioner Diane Meling questioned who would enforce the ban and the procedures that would be put in place. Frederick says five of Blair County’s municipalities already have a recyclable burning ban in place.
