Bridge Replacement Work on Poplar Run Road in Blair County

Drivers in Blair County will soon have a smoother and safer ride across Poplar Run Road in Juniata Township as work has begun by County Maintenance Crews.

Workers will replace the existing bridge with a box culvert. Crews have begun work on constructing a temporary run-around for use during construction. Once work is complete, traffic will be switched and demolition of the existing bridge structure will begin and a new box culvert will be set in place. Minor roadway approach work as well as guide rail upgrades will also be completed.

This $350,000 project is expected to be completed by September.

Beginning on Tuesday or Wednesday, a temporary signal will be placed in service at the intersection with the Grazierville Exit off of I-99 and Business Route 220. This signal will help reduce any traffic congestion at the ramps and intersection due to the bridge replacement project over the Little Juniata River.

The signal will be in place until October 2013.

This work is part of a $2.6 million contract that will replace a structurally deficient bridge over the Little Juniata River. This work has a completion date of June 2013.
