Councilman Challenging Business Owner’s Election Petition

A sitting Altoona City councilman who is running for re-election has challenged the petition of a local business owner who is also seeking a seat on the board.

Councilman Dave Butterbaugh says he believes that Wilson Saguban does not have enough legitimate signatures to appear on the Republican ballot for the May Primary Election. Butterbaugh is challenging 46 of Saguban’s 120 entries. Candidates need at least 100 valid names to appear on the ballot.

Butterbaugh says the challenge isn’t personal and he has no animosity towards Saguban. He says it’s all about the process and principle.

Saguban says Butterbaugh, Councilman Michael Haire and newcomer Matt Cacciotti all signed each other’s petitions and purposely pushed him out. An emergency court hearing is scheduled for 10:00AM today in Blair County’s Court of Common Pleas.
