Pennsylvania Senate Democrats are challenging Governor Tom Corbett's top budget adviser over the administration's proposed pension fund changes and analysis that a Medicaid expansion would cost state taxpayers billions of dollars.
Corbett's budget secretary Charles Zogby answered questions for nearly two-and-a-half hours during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing Tuesday.
One key topic was the administration's plan to reduce future pension benefits. Senator Jim Ferlo of Allegheny County told Zogby that Corbett's most recent budget proposal is a "house of cards." Zogby shot back that it's Corbett who inherited a "house-of-cards" finances that's he's fixing.
Democrats also questioned why the Corbett administration hasn't shown how it came up with its Medicaid expansion analysis. Democrats say the expansion would produce a net benefit for state taxpayers.
