One of the tropes in the earlier days of Siskel and Ebert was that they suppossedly hated one another. I always took it more as competitiors who end up as a team, as when the started hosting Sneak Previews on PBS (which later became At The Movies, later Siskel & Ebert on commercial TV). So it was perfect that they played parody versions of themselves in a before-its-time animated show about a movie critic, "The Critic" (1994-95, voiced by Jon Lovitz). They fight, almost kill each other, both try to make the Critic their new reviewing partner, which all goes badly until they realize they have a good act going. While singing to each other. Think I'm making this up? Watch the video: (and RIP to both Roger Ebert & Gene Siskel, who actually critqued movies, not flacked them)
Once again, Foot of Ten Elementary School in Duncansville was the State Champion in Daffodil Days sales for The American Cancer Society. Sad to say that ACS is dropping the annual sale, but Foot of Ten keeps their title of top seller ($24,000 raised this year) after 13 years. They recently had their rewards assembly for the students. Yes, these are their teachers (...and the kids are lucky to have them)

Three years after the White House arranged a hero's welcome at the State of the Union address for the Fort Hood police sergeant and her partner who stopped the deadly shooting there, Kimberly Munley says President Obama broke the promise he made to her that the victims would be well taken care of.
"Betrayed is a good word," former Sgt. Munley told ABC News in a tearful interview to be broadcast tonight (2/12) on "World News with Diane Sawyer" and "Nightline."

(Video) Michigan House Member Douglas Geiss(D) said if Right-To-Work passes in the state, "there will be blood". Numerous Michigan law makers repeated the remark on Twitter. A crowd later surround a tent set up by Americans for Prosperity/Michigan (a pro-Right-To-Work group) outside the capitol. The tent was occupied by adult activists, but also elderly and children. The crowd, some armed with knives, cut up and trampled the tent while AFP members inside. Several inside were kicked, punched multiple times and trampled. The law makers quickly deleted their retweets of the "there will be blood" message.

are so elaborate (and these days, sometimes
over-blown and over-done )

"Pittsburgh police say a man tried to carjack a plainclothes officer near filming for the latest Batman movie -- and allegedly told him it was part of the script.
Detective Robert DiGiacomo was in an unmarked vehicle around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, looking for a suspect in an assault. That's when police say a man opened the car door, sat down and told the officer to get out.
The officer drew his gun and ordered the suspect, 21-year-old Micah Calamosca, out of the car. He says the suspect told him he was part of filming for "The Dark Knight Rises" and that taking the vehicle was in the script.
Calamosco was taken into custody and faces a charge of robbery of a motor vehicle. It's unclear if he has an attorney."
You hear Musicologist Jerry Zolten as a monthly guest co-host on The 11th Hour. You should know he's an author and an associate professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State Altoona. Two things we mentioned during his latest visit:
One is an exhibit at Penn State Altoona's Misciagna Family Center of "Robert Crumb: From the Collection of Jerry Zolten" You may have heard Jerry talk about his acquaintance with R. Crumb over the years. Now until September 4th you can check out some unique art and materials. There's a reception on September 1st as well. More info HERE
Two - click on the panel below for more info on Jerry himself becoming (part) of a work of art:
