Governor Corbett's Son-in-Law Faces Hearing on Charges

Governor Corbett's son-in-law – a former Philadelphia police narcotics officer – faces a preliminary hearing today on charges he stole money while on duty.
The district attorney's office wants a jury trial for 43-year-old Jerold Gibson, even though the charges are misdemeanors, because it says these are serious accusations against a police officer. Gibson's lawyer, Richard DeSipio, says he looks forward to trying the case before a jury of Gibson's peers and that his client is innocent.
Gibson was allegedly caught stealing cash from a car in January in a sting operation by the police internal affairs unit and the FBI. He's charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property, failure to make required disposition of funds, obstruction and tampering.
Gibson, who was fired, is married to Corbett's daughter Kate. The couple is separated.
