The State Senate has unanimously passed a bill designed to ensure that offenders who illegally buy guns for criminals will face a minimum prison sentence.
Under the bill, an offender who is convicted of multiple "straw purchases" of firearms in one case would be treated as a repeat offender and face a mandatory 5 to 10 year prison term.
Such an offender does not face a minimum prison sentence under current guidelines.
The bill was passed by the House of Representatives last year and is expected to be signed by Governor Tom Corbett.
