Holiday Event results In Injuries In Bedford County
Three people were injured Sunday at a Holiday celebration in Bedford County.
State police say that a little before 5pm two horses that were going to pull a sleigh in a parade during the Grand Illumination Ceremony at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort became startled when a band started playing. The horses took off and the two people in the sleigh on wheels portraying Santa and Mrs. Claus had to ride it out until a hotel employee using a vehicle was able to slow the sleigh down. The passengers were then able to jump from the still moving sleigh. The woman sprained her ankle.
The driver of the sleigh, Ernie Alwine, suffered serious injuries as a result of being dragged beneath the sleigh for several hundred yards. He was flown from the scene to Conemaugh hospital and is listed as stable.
The young daughter of the horses’ owner suffered minor injuries.
