Lawyer: APD Officer Defended Himself

The lawyer for an Altoona Police officer charged with aggravated assault at a Pittsburgh-area concert over the weekend says his client was merely defending himself after being confronted by another individual.
Altoona attorney Seven Passarello tells the Altoona Mirror that Matt Plummer will not waive his case to trial later this month. Passarello calls the situation a “classic case” of self defense. Plummer was put on desk duty as city officials probe the situation and await the outcome of the criminal charges brought against him.
Plummer was among a busload of local police officers attending a Kid Rock concert at First Niagara Pavillion in Washington County on Saturday. Plummer confronted a man after a beer bottle was thrown at the Fullington bus the group had rented.
Passarello says Plummer intervened to help the driver, who had confronted two men because a window had been damaged. One of the men, identified as Thomas Andrews, threw a punch at Plummer and missed. Plummer struck Andrews once in the mouth, knocking him to the ground.
