Local Water Authority To Receive PENNVEST Loan

The Altoona Water Authority has been awarded a $6.5 million loan from PENNVEST.

The funding comes from a combination of state funds approved by voters, federal grants to PENNVEST from the Environmental Protection Agency and recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards. Funds for the projects are disbursed after bills for work are paid and receipts are submitted to PENNVEST.

The Altoona Water Authority received the loan to install more than two miles of new sewer lines and make a variety of improvements to the authority’s sewage treatment plant in order to eliminate wet weather overloading of the wastewater treatment system that results in the discharge of untreated sewage into Brush Run.
