A Newry woman who twice ran unsuccessfully for Blair County Commissioner has now been appointed to serve on the county’s planning commission.
Commissioners Ted Beam and Terry Tomassetti on Tuesday selected Jo Ann Nardelli to fill an open vacancy on the board. Nardelli is a former Newry Borough Councilwoman. Beam says Nardelli was recommended for the spot.
Nardelli made regional and state headlines in 2012 when she left the Democratic Party to join the GOP in opposition to President Barack Obama’s support of gay marriages.
