Federal mamdate.
I wanted you to know that there is no federal mandate to change to a digital radio system as part of the change to narrow banding. Please see the FAQ from the FCC website: http://transition.fcc.gov/pshs/public-safety-spectrum/narrowbanding-faq.html#question_1_5 I believe that the county can not afford the new system and could easily meet the federal requirement in some cases by simply reprogramming radios. The question that needs to be asked is why the transition to digital now and can a transition be made in stages? Although I believe a transition to digital radio is a good move, as a tax payer I find it ridiculous to consider this expense at this time, knowing the financial state of the County. It infuriates me to think this is being rammed through under the guise of a federal mandate.
