With some parts of the legislation set to expire at month's end, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation wants to see Congress take swift action to keep them intact.
As an example – says Doug Siglin, CBF's federal affairs director – the Farm Bill helps Pennsylvania farms control their agricultural runoff, which in turn affects the whole state.
Siglin says a five-year, 500-billion-dollar Farm Bill is stuck in the U-S House as debate rages on over how much to cut from farm subsidies and other programs.
The House Agriculture Committee is pushing its own version of the bill, that would reduce federal nutrition programs by more than 16 billion dollars – an amount House Democrats say is too deep.
