Governor Tom Corbett has signed an executive order to establish a commission to examine and advocate for Pennsylvania’s military installations and the important role they play in our local economy and national security.
 
“This panel will monitor federal activities that might affect these bases and work to protect our citizens from the needless loss of important jobs,’’ Corbett says.
 
“These bases represent the livelihoods of communities and hard-working Pennsylvania families. We will, if needed, fight to save our bases, their jobs, and the legacy Pennsylvania has built over more than two centuries of preserving our freedom,’’ Corbett says.
 
The executive order goes into effect immediately.
 
Led by Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, the commission will be comprised of four members of the General Assembly who serve on the Military Installations and Base Development Caucus: Senators Richard Alloway and John Blake, and Representatives Scott Perry and Harry Readshaw, along with others familiar with military installations or operations.
 
The commission will be an advocate at the federal, state and local levels for the enhancement of Pennsylvania’s military installations, organizations and defense related regions. It will assist with the expansion of the economic development opportunities and defense related industry regions across the state.
