Police: APD Officer Struck Concert Patron in Mouth
We’re learning more about what led to the arrest of an off-duty Altoona Police officer at a Kid Rock concert near Pittsburgh over the weekend.
Court documents filed by the Hanover Township Police Department accuse 27-year-old Matthew Plummer of punching another man in the mouth following a disturbance in the First Niagara Pavilion parking lot. Sources tell WRTA News that someone threw a bottle at the bus carrying local police officers, Blair County Sheriff deputies and 911 operators to the show. When Plummer looked outside the bus he says he saw Thomas Andrews exposing his buttocks to the passengers. Plummer got off the bus and confronted Andrews about throwing the bottle which Andrews denied. A verbal altercation ensued followed by Andrews taking a swing at Plummer who retaliated by punching him in the face and knocking him to the ground bleeding.
Plummer was charged with one count of aggravated assault. Andrews has been charged with exposing himself and causing a disturbance.
Police say their investigation is ongoing. Plummer meanwhile faces a September 23rd preliminary hearing in Washington County.
In a side note, Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller tells WRTA News that none of his officers were at the concert.
