All charges against a death row inmate stemming from an attack on his a defense lawyer were bound over for trial Tuesday.
50 year old Andre Staton, convicted in 2006 for the brutal slaying of Beverly Yohn of Altoona, was sentenced to death and has been housed at SCI-Greene since that time. On May 13 while handcuffed he slugged his attorney, Tim Burns. The action was depicted as swift and brutal during testimony at yesterday’s hearing.
Burns was not at the hearing because his doctors have ordered him to rest due to "severe post-traumatic concussion syndrome.” Burns also suffered a heart attack in the days following the assault.
Staton now faces simple assault charges and four counts of aggravated assault, including aggravated assault by a life prisoner, which carries a life sentence.
