Several war veterans gathered outside of the Van Zant VA Medical Center in Altoona on Sunday to protest the government shutdown and the closing of war memorials all across the country.
The gathering was in association with a larger movement taking place in Washington at the same time. The veterans say the memorials were built to honor their service – and they called it a shame that the memorials would be ever be closed to those who gave so much.
The group laid a wreath at the foot of the Wall that Heals to honor those who gave so much for their country. The government shutdown and worker furloughs is now entering its second week with no end in sight.
