Wright Elementary Among “Worst Performing”

Wright Elementary School has made the state Education Department’s list of Pennsylvania's lowest-achieving schools.

Parents of students at the school may now qualify for scholarships to enroll their children somewhere else.

The list published Wednesday includes 414 public schools in 74 districts statewide.

Wright’s status among the bottom 15-percent is based on math and reading scores from last year's state standardized tests.

Families who meet income guidelines are eligible to apply for scholarships of up to $8,500, or up to $15,000 for special education students.

The scholarships are funded by a $50-million tax credit approved by Pennsylvania lawmakers last month. The Education Department says the program has the potential to affect more than 242,000 students.

I would've just posted this on Facebook, but Facebook doesn't allow you to post GIFs (like this little animation). Maybe the $1.1 BILLION price tag isn't so crazy?
