GOOD RESPONSE TO TEA PARTY!

Yesterday many cities and towns across America found that concerned citizens held TEA PARTIES indicating that people are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY and are very tired of big government, big debt and high taxes.  Even here in Blair County a TEA PARTY was held and which was VERY SUCCESSUFL even though the weather did not cooperate.  Thousands across the nation turned out to "speak out" including 400 to 500 at the Courthouse in Hollidaysburg.  To be honest, that is very encouraging to me!  I am so glad to see that people are now willing to stand up against a government that is working to take away our freedoms. To each of you who attended the TEA PARTY, I say a hearty THANK YOU!  Keep it up!  Take every opportunity you can to let the government know how you feel. It is YOUR right as an American citizen, you know.  Oh, you may be targeted in some way, but at least you will know deep down inside that you are doing your part to make America a better place to live.  By the way, if you want to see some pictures of the Blair County TEA PARTY, please log on to WRTA's picture page, and if you want to read the speech I gave yesterday, please go to faithandfreedom.com and click on to my commentary page.

GET INVOLVED: ATTEND THE BLAIR COUNTY TEA PARTY!

The history of America reveals that she became a strong nation because of the involvement of "grass root citizens."  "Grass root citizens" were involved as Pilgrims coming to the "new world."  "Grass root citizens" were involved in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars."  "Grass root citizens" have become involved in various movements to challenge and encourage politicians to do the right thing in government.  But, over the past years, it appears that many have fallen back in their "grass roots involvement."  Consequently, many politicians have taken the ball away from the public and have led America into a moral and financial crisis.  Tomorrow, TEA Parties will be held all over America by GRASS ROOT CITIZENS with the effort to TAKE BACK THE GOVERNMENT from politicians who seem to have no conscience in leading the country away from our founding principles.  We are fortunate to be able to have such a TEA Party right here in Blair County from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg.  Are you going to attend, and make a statement to our leaders?  I sure hope so.  Why?  Because America has a government, " of the people, by the people and for the people," but the people must stand up and speak out.  The TEA Party is an opportunity for YOU, the people,  to make a difference.  So, get involved.  Take some time off to attend the TEA Party tomorrow and let our political leaders know that you are fed up with some of their unreasonable and irresponsible actions.  Who knows, THEY JUST MAY LISTEN!

HIGH TAXES AND BIG GOVERNMENT

All Americans have been able to watch our nation to become one of HIGH TAXES AND BIG GOVERNMENT over the past years.  And, it appears that such a trend is not going to end under the direction of the President Obama administration.  HIGH TAXES AND BIG GOVERNMENT goes against the thinking of our founding fathers and the Declaration of Independence.  You see, our founders wanted few taxes and small government so that the citizenry could develop their own dreams.  That is why the Declaration speaks of LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.  BIG GOVERNMENT AND HIGH TAXES works against all three of those concepts.  This Wednesday, concerned citizens all over America are going to gather for a TEA PARTY to express their concerns that we are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY and that we want it to stop right now.  This is a good idea.  This is an act of the government being taken back by THE PEOPLE!  Such a TEA PARTY will be held at 12:00 noon at the Court House in Hollidaysburg Wednesday, and I would encourage ALL to take an hour and get involved.  In doing so, YOU will be exercising your right as a FREE AMERICAN.  If you don't get involved, you will be a contributor to handing our government into the hands of those who want to see our freedoms reduced, both for us and for the American generations to follow.  So, GET INVOLVED AND STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!

By now, most are aware that former Altoona City Councilman and Mayor Ray Voltz died at his home last Friday.  Ray was a good man and will be greatly missed by his friends, his family, and his community.  In getting to know Ray, I found that he truly loved the city and the people of Altoona and dedicated a lot of time, outside of being involved in city government, to improve the area.  He did a fine job.  He loved people and wanted to give an ear to the "small person" in town who had no one else to talk to.  His love for baseball was very evident.  I believe that everytime we chatted, the subject of baseball came up one way or another.  I can remember how excited he was when it was announced that Altoona was getting a professional baseball team, and after the Curve arrived, Ray could be seen often at the games, just walking around the stadium speaking with people.  Ray loved his family greatly and they loved him greatly as well.  More than once Ray spoke to me regarding his commitment to God, Country and family.  He did not have to speak of that commitment, it was radiating in his life. Ray was a veteran of the Korean War and literally fought to maintain the freedoms we hold dear to us in America.   We all will miss Ray Voltz, but we are all better off because of his efforts in Altoona.  Please be in prayer for his wife and family as they go through this difficult time.

A VISIT TO THE DENTIST

Do you like going to the dentist?  To be honest, I do! Now, that has not always been the case.  My first dentist was my third cousin and boy was he ever rough!  I can recall his nurse literally holding down my arms as he yanked, pushed and pulled things in and out of my mouth.  He was so rough that even to this day I picture him standing on my chest when it came time to extract a tooth.  He really did not to that, but that is the lasting impression I have of Dr. J. Harold Dull.  He was a harsh dentist.  Then, 25 years ago I had another dentist who also was very rough.  He always took hours to work on me in his chair and when I got out of it, I felt like I had been in a battle and my hair would literally stand on end as a result of his routine in my mouth.  Honest!  But these days, things are quite a bit different.  For the last twenty years or so, I have been going to Dr. Tim Ehgartner here in Altoona.  I was there at 8:00 this morning and thoroughly enjoyed my visit.  As rough as the first two dentists I told you about were, Tim is twice as gentle.  In fact, I have a hard time staying awake in his chair.  This morning, I actually told his assistant that I relax visiting him and would like to do it daily if possible.  Dr. Tim is gentle, efficient, kind and caring.  So, if you are looking for a relaxing 1/2 hour or so, make an appointment with my dentist and enjoy yourself.   If you do, you will never want to visit another dentist. Visiting him is like getting a massage!  What experiences have you had with your dentists over the years?  Please feel free to let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.  Thanks!

GOOD POLICE WORK MAKES FOR A SAFE COMMUNITY

Yesterday the Logan Township Police Department performed a task that should make us all feel a bit safer when they captured Joseph B. Olecki after he shot 21 bullets into the home of his former girlfriend Saturday night.  By the amount of ammunition and weapony he was carrying in his stolen car when he was caught it appears he was planning on doing some great damage to someone, somewhere.  He may have even been involved in a shooting in Scranton Sunday  evening as well and is still a "person of interest" to the police in that city.  He was a bold man.  He had indicated to his girlfriend that he would not go to jail without taking people down with him.  He was very dangerous.  But his plans came to an abrupt end when he was caught yesterday morning on Mill Run road becuse the Logan Township Police performed great work. Being a policeman is a hard job.  It is a dangerous job every day.  Facing a man like Olecki goes beyond danger, but without a flaw, one of our local police departments rose to the task and now we are a little bit more safer.  Sometimes we complain about the police when they do not come as soon as we want when we need them.  But let's be careful.  They do what they can with what they have to do it.  And yesterday, they performed in an impeccible fashion.  Let's give them some praise.  What do you think?  Please let me know your thoughts at gary@theradiocampus.com.  Thank you!

WHAT AMERICA NEEDS TODAY IS MORE OF GOD!

What does America need?  That is a quesion many are probably asking as we see so many things taking place across the nation that are shaking people in their emotions.  Think of it for a moment.  Prices are going up.  People are getting poorer.  Companies are folding.  Marriages are breaking up.  Young people are becomming less respectful of the older.  The economy is a mess.  America is now sponsoring abortions in other nations. The government will be funding embryonic stem cell research soon.  Same-sex relationships are becomming more accepted.  Fewer people are attending church.  Indeed, I could go on and on, but this is just a sample of how people are being shaken in their boots today.  An other thing to consider is that each one of those things I have mentioned are not in line with what America was for the first two centuries of existence.  Why are things such a mess?  Could it be it is because God has been placed on the "back porch" of American thought?  I believe it is.  Since prayer and Bible reading was taken out of the public schools in the early 1960's, morals, integrity, character, and solid tradition have gone out of the window in a rapid fashion.  So, to answer the question of what America needs, I personally believe we need more of God.  Following God and biblical principles is what made America great, but the forsaking of such will bring America down.  There is a verse of scripture that says, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness;  and all these things shall be added unto you."  That is found in Matthew 6:33.  What does the verse say?  Simply, when a person, a group, or a nation seeks God's way, He (God) will see that everything comes together in the proper fashion.  However, history shows that when God is not sought, chaos enters the picture, and that is what we are watching take place in America today.  I firmly believe that if we would bring God back into the picture in America, as He was since the founding of the nation,  things would turn around for the better.  On the other hand, if we deny God His place in America, we can only anticipate destruction. In the Bible, Hosea 4:6 presents that clear principle.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.  Thank you!

THE PENNSYLVANIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONSIDERS A SEXUAL ORIENTATION BILL.  HOW SAD!

A bill to extend anti-discromination protections to include sexual orientation passed a PA House committee on a party-line vote Wednesday, and thus as I understand it, the bill will now go to the full house for debate.  Democratic supporters hailed it as a "necessary step"  to end bias in housing, employment, credit or public accommodations, while Republican opponents said it would "infringe on religious beliefs and was being pushed through too quickly."  In my opinion, the deomcratic position is very sad.  When are we going to learn that "same-sex"  relationships are wrong in every way?  They are wrong biblically.  They are wrong morally.  They are wrong physically.  They are wrong medically.  They are wrong socially.  They are just plain wrong.  Therefore for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to establish a bill that would make it easier for those in "same-sex" relationships to receive benefits of any sort is also wrong and will further the moral decline of society.  I am glad to see that all of the Republicans in the committee voted against the bill, but I feel sorry for the Democrats who voted in favor of the bill.  May God have mercy on them!  If we are going to strengthen our society, we must strengthen the family unit whiich is based on heterosexual, rather than homosexual relationships.  When will we learn that "same-sex" unions of any sort are really out of line?  In my opinion, it is time that we stop tolerating "anything that goes," and start standing for moral absolutes that build strength and stability into a civilization.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

PRESIDENT OBAMA SAYS "YES" TO EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH.

Yesterday, President Obama overturned the President Bush restrictions on using embryonic stem cells for research.  Scientists all across the nation are thrilled with this as they believe their research will contribute to a cure for diseases like diabetis, parkinson's and maybe even alzhermer's.  Certainly we are all in favor of eliminating disease, but at what cost?  Is it right to take one life to save another?  That is the real situation with embryonic stem cell research.  You see, an embryo is in all actuality a human being.  Oh, it may be a tiny, undeveloped human being, but a human being nonetheless.  In the process of embryonic stem cell research, the embryo is actually destroyed.  In other words, embryonic stem cell treatment involves the deliberate killing of a human being in order to use his body parts to treat another human being.  In my opinion, such an act is a moral sin and should not be done.  To be more pointed, there is no reason for taking cells from embryo's because the same cells are able to be received from fat tissue and umbilical cords.  So why embryonic stem cell research?  Because our President and many of our scientists do not value the sanctity of life.  They do not realize that life is a gift of God and that only God has the right to take life in His own way.  I believe that since America has legalized abortion, God has been judging the country, and now, with the signature of a hand, killing human beings through embryonic stem cell research has been legalized, we can only expect harder times for America.  Folks, as a nation, we must turn back to our founding fathers' principles of valuing life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  That is why God blessed America, but doing away with that trilogy will prevent God from blessing America.  I want our nation to be strong and blessed by God, but that will only happen as we stand up for life on every level.  Embryonic stem cell research and treatment is a sinful shame and must be reversed asap. Rather than standing up for life, embryonic stem cell research devalues life!  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

COULD THERE BE AN OBAMAN DICTATORSHIP?

Last week on YOUR TALK SHOW WITH GARY DULL, the question was asked if President Obama's administration could end up in a virtual dictatorship?  It was interesting to me to hear the response of the listeners on both sides of the issue.  But last Thursdsay I attended a FAITH AND FREEDOM INSTITUTE meeting in Washington, and that same question was asked to a conservative beltway insider.  His response was a rapid "yes."  He then went on to say "we have only a two year window to prevent that from taking place."   Wow!  A two year window to prevent President Obama from portraying dictatorship tactics?  That is what he said.  I then asked him the question, "what can we do to prevent that?"  His answer was, "work to get a conservative majority in Congress."  That sounds very reasonable.  Therefore, let's get to work!  Let's reach out to every person we know across the United States and encourage them to get involved in government and establish a conservative return to Congress.  If we do not, and if President Obama is able to then govern as a virtual dictator, we will all be in great big trouble.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

CONTRADICTIONS IN THE PRESIDENTIAL CABINET

Folks, I am getting sick and tired of the double talk and contradictions we are seeing in President Obama's Cabinet.  The most recent event that has me outraged took place yesterday when Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner went before Congress to talk about how the administration is going to "clean" up the federal tax system.  In doing so, he indicated that he will be working to end certain tax shelters, prosecute those who abuse the tax code, and punish those who do not pay their taxes.  CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT?  Remember that Timothy Geithner is the man who did NOT pay his taxes before he was selected to head the Department of the Treasury.  How hypocritical.  What is even worse is that the committee before which he was testifying had the flamboyant Representative Charlie Wrangle sitting there in judgment, and he, too, has a tax problem!  These guys are saying they are going to end tax fraud and they are guilty of it themselves.  Don't you think we should call for them to come clean?  Yesterday I heard a story where the I.R.S. is after a 20 year old man because he messed up on his taxes and owes $288.00.  Actually, they had been after him hard until the problem was resolved.  I wonder how much money the I.R.S. spent to recover the $288.00 from the college student.  Certainly, I believe the young man should make things right (by the way, he did not attempt to cheat the I.R.S., he just made an honest mistake), and he has.  But what really bothers me is that the "powers to be" have gone after this young man, when a couple of those who head up the tax collection system have avoided  paying their own. I am outraged at that situtaion and believe once again that it is so important that we, the people, demand integrity in government.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

BLAIR COUNTY DRUG COURT OUT OF ORDER

Over the last couple of days we have learned of a big misstep conducted by the Blair County Drug Court under the oversight of Judge Jolene Kopriva.  As I understand it, the purpose of the Drug Court is to deal directly with those who have become a part of the drug culture in our area.  By in large I am appreciative of the Court because it does speed along the legal and moral help those involved in drugs need to receive justice and hopefully restoration.  As I understand it, the funds used to run the Court is not tax money but is rather received from the private sector.  However, the $400.00 Judge Jolene Kopriva gave to help a lady involved in drugs receive an abortion is far out of bounds in my opinion.  The Judge said that it is not unusual for the court to give money to help participants with eyeglasses, security deposits and GED tests.  I would like to know why that is the case, but putting that aside, providing money for an abortion is far out of line according the statements rendered by District Attorney Rich Consiglio.  Thank the Lord he came to the rescure for pro-life principles.  He is a hero! Through his actions, the money has been paid back! But back to the Drug Court and Judge Kopriva.  In my opinion, they should be reprimanded!  Abortion is taking life and our government has no business contributing to the taking of life!  We fight that so often on the national level, but it is so sad that we have to fight that now on the local level as well.  I suggest you all write a letter to the Judge and the Court letting them know what you think about their decision to pay for an abortion.  Wake them up!  Let them know they are accountable to us!  Ask them to remain in the bounds of their job responsibilities!  They were out of line and we need to bring them back in bounds.  What do you think? BOOZE BOOST IN PENNSYLVANIA

Late last week it was announced that even though we are in the midst of an economy crisis, people still spend money when and where they want to and do not seem to be concerned about the matter.  What am I talking about?  Well, last week the Pennsylvania Liqour Control Board said that sales at Pennsylvania's state-operated Wine and Spirits stores reached a record $1.77 billion in the fiscal year of 2007-2008.  Along with that, Nick Hays of the Pennsylvania Liqour Control Board stated that as of February 1 of this year, sales are up 4.2% over the same time last year!  Aren't we in a recession?  If so, then why are people spending so much money on booze?  Allow me to share some of my thoughts about that question.  First, I am sure there are those who drink more when trouble comes their way to help soothe the blow of their sgruggles.  So, as people are concerned about their financnes, they drink more alcohol to "help them cope" with the stress and fear of losing their money.  Second, this shows me that people are willing to spend money on what they want, even if it means that they may not have much or any money to spare for other things later on.  The point is, most people have money to spend, even if it is for potentially destructive purposes.  That is how I view the purchase of alcohol.  Who does it really help in the long run?  More homes, lives and relationships have been destroyed through alcohol than any other drug on the market today.  So, even if taking those drinks appears to help one over a hump, in the long run it can bring a great deal of negative elements into the life of the one who depends on alcohol to get them through.  Perhaps those who turn to alcohol in the time of trouble should look elsewhere, such as the Bible, for strength in the time of their weakness.  The Bible will give the readers a long lasting peace and it will not cost as much either.  Now, that may not be good news to those who sell alcoholic beverages, but it will be good news for those whose lives have been effectively harmed due to alcohol abuse.  Then, they can spend their money on positive projects which may be of help to others in a time of crisis.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com

PRESIDENT OBAMA PRESENTS HIS BUDGET TODAY

Today, our new President Barak Obama is scheduled to bring his budget to American view.  Reports indicate that it will be the highest presidential budget ever, ranging from $3.5 to $4 trillion dollars.  Included in the budget are 9,000 earmarks to the amount of $12 billion which have been entered by members of both parties.  Actually 40% of them have been submitted by Republicans and 60% by Democrats.  Also included, as I am told, are $250 billion for a major bank bail out.   Does this seem like a double standard to you?  It does to me.  The President has been preaching budget cuts, balanced budgets and reduction of debt, but this does not seem to be the way to achieve that goal to me.  At the same time he is presenting this budget with all of that pork, he is also saying that the next two budgets will contain no earmarks to inflate the cost.  Do you believe that one?  I don't.  Actions like this cause us to have a bad attitude toward politicians, but what is worse is that it shows the lack of integrity on the part of their lives.  I guess they think they can say anything they want, but don't have to follow through with their statements in actions.  That bothers me greatly.  I want to trust  our leaders.  In reality, we need to trust our leaders if we are going to have a strong country.  But it is obvious that many are not worthy of our trust, including President Obama.  The American citizens need to wake up and demand accountability from our leaders.  Politicians are in government to serve us, not to dictate things to us that will bind us for years to come.  Let's learn to stand up and speak out for integrity in government.  Maybe some will listen, and maybe some will not.  But let's tell them what we think. That is our right.  That is our duty!   In fact let's demand that they be honest in their deportment.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS A CHANGE

During Barak Obama's Presidential campaign he emphasized over and over again that the American Government needs a change.  Without a doubt, I agree with that statement, but the question is, what kind of a change does it need?  I was thinking about this the other day and came to the conclusion that the change we need is in attitude and personnel.  To me, the attitude in government seems to be based on greed and selfishness rather than on serving and concern for others.  Regarding personnel, I believe a lot of the folks who have been in government for years and years should step down and let others with new ideas, new goals, and a greater commitment to the American values take their places.  Take a closer look at our government.  Both parties seem to spend and spend.  Elected officials seem to be out of touch with the American people.  The size of government is growing by leaps and bounds.  Corruption is so evident and in many cases goes without correction.  Officials are becoming more and more powerful.  Many problems are given band-aids instead of real long term solutions.  Morality seems to be fading away at every turn.  It is time that we, the American public, who really are the government according to our Constitution, demand accountability from all government officials and do all we can to replace those who are "dead-wooded, inefficient, stale-minded, career desiring politicians" who seem to be feeding their own ego rather than the true needs of America.  What do you think?  Please let me know by responding to gary@theradiocampus.com.

SAVING HEALTH CARE COSTS

In a report  just released we have been told that "health care costs will top $8,000.00 a person this year, consuming an ever-bigger slice of a shrinking economic pie," according to the Department of Health and Human Services.  That sounds like a lot of money to me.  Actually, health care costs will average $8,160.00 this year for every man, woman and child which is an increase of $356.00 per person from last year, according to reports.  What's more is that the report reveals that medicare could be out of money by 2016 if trends continue on the current direction.  What should we do about that? Many will say, "nothing," just let it happen.  I sure hope that is not the way we will go.  I believe this is another indication why we as the American citizens need to get involved, voice our opinion and contribute to valid solutions.  My suggestions for the increase cost in health care is not a greater form of socialized medicine, as that leads to bigger socilized government, but that increased efforts be made to improve personal physician care, make law suits for medical mal-practice practically impossible to achieve (that raises costs tremendously), and strive for more personal responsibility for cost care.  For instance, rather than the government paying over $8,000.00 per person in the coming year, reduce our taxes and the other related items that raise health care costs, and allow every person to strive for their own care.  Does that make senses?  Certainly those who must be on welfare could benefit from governmnet support, but if we followed my suggestions, I truly believe in time we could see this trend in "out of control" health care costs increasing.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

IS A PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION "WATCH" IN ORDER?

Have you noticed how much President Obama has traveled since he has been in office?  Have you heard statements made by some of the Presidential Cabinet?  If you have, perhaps you feel like me that maybe a "PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION WATCH" is in order.  For instance, just this week alone, President Obama has traveled in Air Force One to Chicago, Denver, Pheonix, and today, to Canada.  That costs us a lot of money (at least $600,000.00 on the Pheonix trip alone) and does not support the "green" philosophy our President speaks of a lot.  In fact, yesterday, it was reported on FOX news that the President sets the heat in the White House at 80 degrees because he likes the "feel of Hawaii! "  It seems to me that once on the campaign trail Mr. Obama told us all to keep the thermostat down in our homes in order to save energy.  Along with that, some of the words coming from his Cabinet members are interesting as well.  This week, his Attorney General stated that "America is a nation of cowards."  WOW!  Is that something a high level leader should be saying?  What about our military who fights on the front lines?  What about our police who fight crime?  What about those in our communities who have to make the tough decisions?  Such statements are not good when made by our national leaders.  So, perhaps it is time for us to establish a "PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION WATCH"  in order to keep the President and his leadership circle to their word and in line with what  national leaders should portray.  Of course, this would probably be a busy task.  But, I think it is something we must do.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

THE STIMULUS PLAN IS NOW LAW

Well, as of yesterday afternoon at around 3:30 eastern time, the new stimulus plan is a reality.  Supposedly everything will be ok now, at least until the next stimulus is needed.  Folks, it seems to me that we are giving our money away so fast that we cannot even keep track of it.  That concerns me.  In fact, the whole stimulus plan concerns me. Doesn't it you?  Even now already, both GM and Chrysler want more money in order to succeed.  Where will it all stop?  Surely we can do more to strengthen our economy besides giving away billions of dollars.  I realize we are in bad times, but I also think we ought to demand that Congress and business get together and develop some genuine and long term strategy for growth, rather than continuing to put bandaids on open wounds.  The bandaid approach is only going to cost us more in the long run. Because of the bill President Obama signed yesterday in Denver, generations to come will suffer financially.  I feel badly for them.  Let's determine that before we start talking about another stimulus plan ( I predict such will happen within 6 months), we will demand that the leaders of our nation will come up with aggressive and positive ways of getting things back on track. which will have a permanent, not just a temporary effect.  How could that be done?  Well, I suggest we start by letting them know what we think.  Perhaps they may listen.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

DID WE HURRY UP TO FAST?

Over the last three weeks about all we heard coming from Washington was that it was necessary for us to have a stimulus package signed immediately or America would not survive.  In fact, on several occasions Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and President Obama said that we could not go "one more day" without a stimulus plan or the nation would become closer to destruction due to the loss of jobs and the lack of money.  Was that true?  Was it a joke?  Was it a lie?  What was it?  I felt that the "powers to be" saw the situation was so bad that as soon as the plan was passed by the Congress, the President would sign it into law within the hour.  But that did not quite happen.  Instead of signing the stimulus bill Friday night, President Obama left Washington for a long weekend in Chicago!  He took a mini vacation.  According to his words, America was on the face of demise, but he went away from the Capitol and failed to do what he thought he had to do in order to save the nation!  What does that say to you?  To me it says the situation was not as serious as he, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi made it out to be.  To me, it says the American people were deceived. To me, it ways the President does not know what he is doing.  To me, it says that we are going to be in for four years of  "reactionary knee jerking" policies rather than strategic planning that will really strengthen the economy.  That concerns me greatly!  As one caller to my radio program said, "President Obama is like a young child in the kitchen trying to make dinner and does not even know what a pot is."  The next four years could be a real tragedy for America if we are not careful. Therefore, I suggest that we all do what we can to be informed about the issues, and then stand up and speak out so that the administration and congress does not steal us blind, run us amuck, or ruin our freedoms.  Let's take America back!  What do you think?  Please let me know by writing to me at gary@theradiocampus.com.  Thank you!

PRESIDENTS' DAY

Today is PRESIDENTS' DAY 2009.  What do you think about it?  I think it is a good to have a day to honor our presidents, but unfortunately, it appears that we only focus on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  The reason for that is obvious in that several years ago the government combined the celebration of both men's birthdays into one.  Geoge Washington was born on February 22, 1732 and Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 and "in the day" we celebrated them separately, but no longer.  So, what about the rest of the 44 Presidents?  Indeed, we should honor them as well.  Now, I am not saying they were all successful, because in my opinion some of them were great failures as President.  But, they did achieve the highest office in the land and the most powerful position in the world and so they all should be honored together.  Let's not just honor Washington and Lincoln.  I am suggesting that we give George and Abe their real birthday's back and then designate another day in the year for PRESIDENTS' DAY when we honor them all together.  When would we do that?  Oh, I don't know, but I would probably place it sometime in the year when no other national holiday is near like March or April.  By doing that, we could properly focus on all 44 men who served in that powerful office, encourage a study of the presidency by our citizenry, and work to strengthen the office in quality and intergrity.  What do you think?  Please feel free to let me know by writing to me at gary@theradiocamus.com

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABE

Yesterday was President Abraham Lincoln's birthday.  If he was still alive he would be 200 years old, but of course we all know about that tragic night at Fords Theater in Washington DC on April 15, 1865, when he was shot by John Wilkes Booth.  Over the years, I have heard many stories about Abraham Lincoln, some good, and some bad.  And, to be honest, I suppose a lot of the good stories and a lot of the bad stories have been fabricated by those who loved him and those who hated him.  Nevertheless, he was our 16th President and a very successful one at that.  From what I have been able to learn about Abe, he was the one who single-handedly was responsible for keeping our nation together in one of the darkest periods of our history, the Civil War.  Think of it.  In order to unite the Country, he had to cross party lines as well as the Mason-Dixon Line, and by the Grace of God, he did it.  Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to put America back together as he would have liked because he only lived a few days after the Civil War was ended officially.  Perhaps, had he lived, we would have been able to see many more qualities of a leader who was a true patriot and was committed to the nation more than he was committed to himself.  Even though there may be those who attempt to diminish President Abraham Lincoln's contribution to America, in my opinion, he will stand tall as one of our Country's greatest leaders.  Oh, how I wish we had a few more Abraham Lincoln's today.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

THE STIULUS PLAN ON THE WAY TO PASSAGE

Well, it appears that the President's Stimulus plan is about ready to become law.  The Senate and House leaders have come up with an agreement of nealy $790 billion to create 3.5 million jobs, according to them.  Do you think it will work?  To be honest, I am very skeptical.  As I understand it, today the House may vote on the bill and the Senate may vote tomorrow.  But, what really is in the package?  That is a mystery.  Oh, sure we know about some of the things included, but it appears that every day some of the hidden details come out that creates concerns by many across the nation.  In fact, even some of our Senators and Representatives do not even know the full details.  How sad is that?  I sure hope that this bill will be looked at with the greatest descretion and that the men and women of Congress will not vote away the store, as it were.  I am extremely concerned about the plan.  I believe that if government would stay out of the process, the economy would come back in time anyway.  However, it appears that we have a stimulus plan right in front of us.  Only time will tell if it will do the job.  If it does, that is good.  If it does not, well, who knows what will happen?  Only God knows. Which reminds me, I believe it is better to trust in God than in mankind.  God will never get us into trouble, but mankind sure can.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com

LOOKING AHEAD TO BLAIR COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT

I am encouraged as I consider the future of law enforcement in Blair County.  Recently Mitch Cooper, the long time member of the Altoona Police Department announced his decision to run for the Sherif of the County.  Mitch has a good record of productive law enforcement and positive involvement in the community.  In my opinion, I believe he will be a model Sherif for others around the Commonwealth to follow.  Along with Mitch running for Sherif, Rich Consiglio has announced that he is going to run for another term as County District Attorney, which again is great in my opinion.  Rich reminds me of an old western sherif who really wants to take care of his town.  Under Rich's administration, many law breakers have been prosecuted due to his no non-sense attitude toward crime.  I believe Mitch and Rich will make a tremendous team in fighting crime in Blair County.  I hope they both win in their campaign.  To be honest, I will be more confident of my safety with those two men in charge.  What is my encouragement to you?  Vote for Mitch and Rich.  Sounds like a pretty good team, doesn't it?  Indeed it does.  Let me know what you think by writing me at gary@theradiocampus.com.

WHERE WILL PRESIDENT OBAMA LEAD US?

I must admit that I did not get to hear every second of President Obama's press conference last night.  I had an appointment and thus joined the broadcast while it was already in progress a bit.  But there is one statement the President made that concerns me greatly.  Mr. Obama said, "ONLY GOVERNMENT CAN SHOCK THE ECONOMY." Did you hear that statement?  If you did, I hope it it caused you to raise your eyebrows.  What is that statement saying?  It really shows the President's philosophy in leading America.  He believes that government is the answer to our problems.  That sure is opposed to what President Ronald Reagan believed as was revealed in his words, "GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEMS.  GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM."  What a difference!  President Obama's belief will lead to greater government involvement in our lives which means we will lose some freedom.  That concerne me.   What is even of a greater concern is that philosophy leads to socialism which will make you and me nothing more than a number or an object that needs to depend upon government for our existence.  Folks, we have great reason to be concerned!  It is time to take America back?  What do you think?  Please share your thoughts at gary@theradiocampus.com.

SENATOR ARLEN SPECTOR SHOWS HIS COLORS

For many years I have been saying that Senator Arlen Spector is not a real Republican, but rather a liberal democrat in disguise.  His decision to support the Stimulus Package gives me another reason to believe he is not a real Republican at all.  I do not know why he just does not change his party affiliation.  The only benefit he has to the Republican Party is the count he registers in the Senate.  Saying he is a Republican gives the party one more seat on the right side of the isle in DC, but so often he takes the left side of the isle's position on issues.  The present Stilulus Package has a whole lot of wasted spending on programs that will not create jobs.  Some of those programs may not be bad, but they do not belong in a stimulus package.  For instance, one item in the package calls for $600 million to go for new cars for top gonvernment bureaucrats.  How will that create new jobs?  The current Stimulus Package is a liberal waste and if it is passed, the Democrats will probably come back for more.  Regarding Senator Spector, I think he is wrong and has betrayed his party.  He should be brought to account for his actions.  Regarding the Stimulus Package, it should not pass as it will create a debt that our great grandchildren will have to pay off.  That is not fair.  It is time for us all to speak up.  So, give Senator Spector a call and let him know how your feel.  He may not listen, but at least, you have told him what you think, and that is important these days.  Please let me know your thoughts by writing to me at gary@theradiocampus.com.   Thank you!

NEW JOBS FOR ALTOONA

Yesterday Governor Ed Rendell, along with Ray Zukowski of N.E.W. Customer Service Cos. Inc. of Sterling VA, announced that nearly 500 jobs will be coming to Altoona soon.  That is very good news for our community!  I want to congratulate ABCD,  and the Governor's Action Team for drawing N.E.W. to our city because it appears that these jobs will be stable and lasting.  The only thing is, we need more jobs to come!  Perhaps that will happen in time because N.E.W. said that the main thing that drew them to Altoona was our qualified work force.  That is good!  So, I say, congratulations also to our work force, and let's hope for more good news in the future.  Now, since the announcement yesterday, I have heard some say that $9.00 per hour starting pay with benefits is not a very good wage, and thus some are complaining that the income should be more.  But let me say two things about that, if I may?  First, the $9.00 wage is just the starting level.  But there are some good benefits and in time there is the opportunity for the pay to increase.  Second, the $9.00 wage is $9.00 more than some people are getting now, and so, stop complaining and go to work!  You never know where that will lead you in the future.  In a time when economic conditions are causing many businesses to down size or even close their doors, we should be thankful for the new jobs for our region.  If you are looking for a job, take advantage of what is available.  Sure, this may not be the job you want, but it is a job and will bring some bread and butter to your table.  What are your thougths?  Please feel free to let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

IT IS TIME TO ELECT A NEW MAYOR

Recently Mayor Wayne Hippo announced that he is not going to run for a second term for the position.  As I understand, the reason is because being mayor takes a lot of time and consequently his law firm has been sacrificed a bit.  I want to thank Mayor Hippo for some of the things he did in that office.  In my opinion he did a pretty good job as mayor,  perhaps better than I originally anticipated.  So, I say, "thanks Wayne."  But this brings up something I have been thinking about for a while.  Altoona used to have a "full-time" mayor and city counsel.  Do you remember?  Several years ago the city changed the form of government to what we have now where the consel is basically the board of directors and the mayor is the chairman of the board.  I am not sure that is working as effectively as originally desired.  I think we would see more done by our leaders if they were able to give more time to their positions.  For instance, if we had a full-time mayor, he could do much more in advancing the growth and development ot the city as well as be more accessible to the citizens.  Along with that, there would be a greater accountability required by the voters which means that if the mayor or a city counsel member did not do the job, they could be voted out.  You know, that may make a big difference in the amount of pot-holes in our streets, the level of crime in the city, the amount of money we spend on unnecessary projects, etc.  In my opinion, I think we should start a campaign to return to a strong mayor, which I believe is needed in these days of crucial issues facing the city.  You know, if we paid a decent salary to the mayor and city counsel, we may find more qualified individuals being willing to run.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com

USING VIDEO POKER TO FUND COLLEGE TUITION?

Recently Governor Ed Rendell announced a proposal to fund college tuition in Pennsylvania by legalizing video poker machines and using the revenue to help students pay their bills.  What do you think about that idea?  Personally, I do not like it.  I have never been in favor of legalizing gambling because study after study has proven a detrimental effect gambling has on individuals and communities.  Through gambling people have lost their jobs, their families and have gone bankrupt on occasions.  Through gambling, commuities have seen an increase of crime in the form of theft, drugs and prostitution.  Those studies are very easy to find.  To me, using revenue from legalizing gambling is somewhat immoral and is only a "short-cut" in attempting to stay off a long term problem in the increasing cost of education.  I know everyone needs more money and the cost of everything is going up these days, but I would have more confidence in my government if they would find ways that are already legal to fund education.  Think of it.  Where will it stop?  If every time we have a financial problem we legalize a crime to fund that problem, we will no longer be a nation of law.  In my opinion, these things must be throught through in a more responsible manner.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

THE STEELERS WIN NUMBER SIX

By now you realize that the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals yesterday in Superbowl 43 by the score of 27-23. Perhaps you are not a football fan, and perhaps you did not even watch the game (which puts you in a special class, as the Suberbowl is the most celebrated event in the nation each year), but there is a lesson you can learn from what happened yesterday.  The lesson to learn is "STICKTOITIVENESS." Have you ever heard of that word?  Probably not, but I am sure you understand the concept, which is, stick to a project until you accomplish your purpose.  The Steelers did just that in yesterday's game.  Although the Steelers led the entire game until the last three minutes, within those last three minutes we learned what they were made of.  When Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald scored a touchdown wth 2:30 left in the game, I figured the game was over as it gave the Cardinals a 23-20 lead.  I also had fear and disgust because in my opinion the Steelers' offense is weak and has a lot to be desired.  But, the Steelers did not quit!  In the last few mintues of the game, instead of giving up, they stuck to it and conducted a 78 yard, eight play drive in less than 2 minutes and 30 seconds to win the game, with 35 seconds left on the clock.  In that campaign, they beat the odds!  But the lesson is clear.  Even when you think the game is lost, do not give up!  Stick to it.  Put forth a strong effort.  Do your best.  Have a good attitude.  Who knows, you may just pull the game out of the pit and win.  That is what Pittsburgh did yesterday, and that is what you and I can do today.  Whatever the task is, don't quit.  Don't give up.  Hang in there and you may just overcome.  If you don't, at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing you did your best right up to the very end.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

GOOD BY TO "RAM ROD BLOG"

Well, today we can officially say good by to Governor Rod Blagojevitch, who was ousted from the govenorship of Illinois yesterday.  What a man he was.  I told my wife the other night, "you gotta love this guy."  And you do!  He sure is different.  Without a doubt he has some very questionable associates, ideas, and actions which probably disqualify him from being a Governor of a large state, but you have to give it to him.  He sure is a scrapper!  I have never seen a guy like him, and for sure we will not see him in Illinois politics again as the Senate out there banned him from ever running for any office in the State ever again.  But do we learn anything from the trip "RAM ROD BLOG" has taken us over the past several months?  I hope we have.  I hope we have learned to get to know as much as we can about every candidate we vote for, whether they are local, state, or federal positions.  I have been convinced for years that many people vote their party, or because they like a certain person, or because they have been told to vote for someone, or for some other superficial reason.  I believe that when many vote, they have no idea of the character or positions the person they are voting for maintains.  They vote from the point of ignorance!  Now, I believe every qualified American should vote.  But, it is crucial, in these days particularly, that we all do all we can to find out as much as we can about the candidate so that we can avoid having people like Rod Blagojevitch placed into office.  Take your vote seriously and then vote with conviction.  But, please, for the sake of our society, don't vote just for the fun of it. Such an attitude is very costly in an age when we must place the most qualified people into the various office positions to lead our nation properly.  What do you think?  Please let me know at gary@theradiocampus.com.

IT IS TIME TO TAKE AMERICA BACK

Where is America going?  To me it appears to be headed down the wrong path, a path that is rapidly taking us away from the intent of our founding fathers.  Does that bother you?  It sure bothers me.  So, what do we do?  Do we just sit back and allow the liberals to steal America from us, or do we stand up and fight for the principles that made America great and do so for the sake of our children and grandchildren?  I say we fight.  I am not calling for a revolution, but rather for involvement.  That is, I would encourage all American citizens to stand up for and do all they can to guide America back to our founding principles.  How can we do that?  Well, I have come up with eight things to consider, which I want to
