The Blair County Commissioners say they can expect to save an additional $250,000 by taking on a higher deductible in their employee health insurance premiums.
Commissioner Terry Tomassetti says the county currently pays deductibles on health insurance claims through its built-in self insurance program. He says by extending the deductible amount slightly, the county’s overall premium will fall significantly. He says the employee’s usage over time hasn’t increased dramatically – and that helped to keep costs down.
Commissioner Diane Meling says the move makes sense.
The county is currently entering the second year of a two-year agreement with Highmark to continue providing health insurance services.
