Protestors Demonstrate Against Education, Other PA Funding Cuts
More than two dozen protestors gathered on the steps of the Blair County Courthouse Wednesday to protest Governor Tom Corbett’s proposed cuts to education and other state programs.
The group then marched to 30th District State Senator John Eichelberger’s office two blocks away to deliver a failing report card. A protest spokesperson tells WRTA News that funding cuts should not fall on the backs of the state’s children.
The group wants lawmakers to close the so called “Delaware Loophole,” which allows many companies to avoid paying state taxes. They say that money could go to making up for the education cuts.
Similar protests were held around the state. In Pittsburgh 11 people were charged with obstructing traffic while in Philadelphia at least six people were arrested for doing the same downtown.
