16 Major Fires In Altoona Since Easter, Many are Arson

Altoona Fire Chief Renny Santone says he’s concerned about the number of serious fires that crews have battled over the past two months.

City firefighters responded to 16 major structure fires since Easter. More than ten of them have been ruled arson. Santone says it’s a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

Many of the fires have occurred in the Fairview and Calvert Hills section of the city, but fire investigators don’t think it’s the work of a serial arsonist.

Anyone with information on these fires is urged to contact the police.
