A fire that destroyed a vacant home Thursday in Altoona was intentionally set.
City fire crews were dispatched to 816 7th Avenue just before 9:30AM and found heavy flames on the first floor of the home. Fire chief Renny Santone says the blaze had a good head start – but his crews were able to contain it within 20 minutes.
The home had previously been used as a convenience store and even a haunted housesite, but it’s been vacant for about a year.
Firefighters found the front door ajar when they arrived on scene. Fire inspector Mike Tofano says the blaze was set in a middle room on the first floor. City police are assisting with the investigation.
