Commissioners Approve Solicitor for County Treasurer

Blair County Treasurer Jim Carouthers has retained an Altoona attorney to represent his office.

The Commissioners approved the hiring of William Haberstroh on Tuesday, who will work as needed on an hourly basis for Carouthers. The issue stems from an issue the surfaced two weeks ago between the board and Carouthers over the future relocation of the treasure’s office.

Carouthers say’s he’s been kept out of the loop on the board’s plan. He says Haberstroh’s hiring was necessary to ensure the safety operation of his office.

Commissioner Ted Beam voted against the hiring, calling it a simple issue that can be resolved without wasting taxpayer money.

He says the move is designed to make overall operation of the courthouse more safe and efficient.
