Blair County property owners owe nearly $5-million in delinquent property taxes for 2011. 
 
Tax Claim Bureau records show $1-million is owed to Blair County, $3-million is owed to the county’s seven school districts and $1-million to local municipalities. Commissioner Terry Tomassetti says the delinquent dollars severely affect the bottom line.

 

Tomassetti says the figure is in line with monies owed each of the past few years. He says it’s costly for the county to attempt to collect the money from delinquent tax payers. Officials say it usually takes about three years for a property to end up at a judicial sale.
