The unemployment rate in Pennsylvania held steady last month even as the U.S. jobless rate rose slightly.
The state Department of Labor and Industry said Thursday that the unemployment rate remained at 7.4-percent in May.
Meanwhile, the national jobless rate edged up to 8.2-percent, from 8.1-percent in April. The state agency estimated the number of non-farm jobs fell by 9,900, leaving the total just above 5.71 million. Resident employment was up 23,000, for a total just below 5.98 million.
Pennsylvania payrolls dropped below 5.6 million after the recession began in December 2007. They remain below the peak of 5.8 million jobs in 2008.
