Democrats Pounce on PA Voter ID Law Link to Romney Win
Democrats are pouncing on a Republican lawmaker's statement that Pennsylvania's new voter identification law will allow Mitt Romney to win the state in November's presidential election.
State House Majority Leader Mike Turzai made the statement Saturday while he was listing legislative accomplishments to the crowd at a state Republican Party gathering in Hershey. Democratic state Representative Dan Frankel says Pennsylvania already has sufficient safeguards to protect against voter impersonation, but this law could deny the right to vote to tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians who can't get the required photo ID.
Turzai spokesman Steve Miskin says the law protects the integrity of elections. No Democrats voted for the law that Governor Tom Corbett signed in March. It's one of the nation's toughest and is being challenged in court as unconstitutional.
