Man Who Kidnapped Girl Faces Formal Sentencing Today

A local man who pleaded guilty to the August 2011 kidnapping and raping a 6-year-old girl will be formally sentenced today in Blair County Court.

57 year old Dennis  Stehley will likely spend the rest of his life in prison when the 40-80 year sentence is officially handed down by Judge Daniel Milliron. Stehley entered a guilty plea to the charges in February.

His sentencing was delayed until a review panel determined if he was a sexually violent predator. That would mean the Stehley would be required to register as a sex offender if ever released from prison.

Stehley kidnapped the child from the Tyrone home of a woman he knows. Police caught up with him and rescued the girl hours later from a remote area near Altoona’s Kettle Reservoir.
