Juveniles Who Damaged Crossover Now Pulling Weeds

Some juveniles responsible for damaging the 13th Street pedestrian crossover earlier this year have been spending the last few days sprucing up a heavily-traveled city street.

The youths were sentenced to 30 hours of community service each as part of their punishment for the vandalism incident. Blair County Court officials approached the city about having the juveniles pay back Altoona’s residents.  So Public Works Director Dave Dietrich put them to work pulling weeds and cleaning up debris.

Police chief Janice Freehling supported the move.

The crosswalk sustained about $2,000 in damage.
