Fire Displaces 7 Residents

Monday dramatic fire in Altoona’s East End is under investigation.

The flames broke out just before 4:30AM at 218-220 Lloyd Street and quickly enveloped the front of the structure. City fire inspector Mike Tofano says five apartments in the building were occupied but everyone made it out unharmed.

Tofano says the blaze started on the front porch of a 1st floor unit. WRTA News has learned that city police had been called to that apartment twice in the hours leading up to the blaze.

Tofano says he’s working the case alongside police investigators.

The building is insured. The American Red Cross is assisting the victims of the fire.
