Officials: PSU Sanctions Likely to Impact Blair County

Blair County officials say the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal and the NCAA sanctions against Penn State will likely affect some tourism monies flowing into the region.

Representatives from the industry say those going into State College for home football games often stop in Altoona and Logan Township to grab a bite to eat, often stopping here on their way to home to shop.

Commissioner Terry Tomassetti says the county relies on a “bed tax” to fund tourism activities.

Several local hotel owners who spoke with WRTA News  its fans making last minute decisions on whether or not to attend games who will ultimately determine what the overall impact will be.
