Corbett: Students Bear 'Brunt' of NCAA Sanctions

Governor Tom Corbett says the penalties imposed on the Penn State football program "go well beyond" those with responsibility for the handling of child sex abuse allegations and he is concerned about their impact on current students.

The NCAA this week imposed a $60-million fine, a four-year bowl game ban, reduced football scholarships and forfeiture of 112 wins. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says Corbett said Wednesday that the penalties will affect all current students.

He said they had nothing to do with the scandal but are "bearing the brunt" of the sanctions. Corbett also said he believed that the university "was turning things around on its own."

But he said the university voluntarily belonged to the NCAA "and I guess they have to play by their rules."
