Report: Several Penn State Trustees Exploring Appeal of NCAA Sanctions
Several Penn State board members are exploring an appeal of the sanctions levied against Penn State by the NCAA for its role in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
The Centre Daily Times reported late Monday that newly-elected Trustee Ryan McCombie is leading the effort with the backing of fellow board member Anthony Lubrano and others. The group is questioning whether Penn State President Rodney Erickson had the authority to accept the sanctions.
The newspaper reports that McCombie will ask the NCAA for a chance to submit an appeal in writing and then argue the case in person before the NCAA’s Infractions Appeals Committee.
The group – through their Boston attorney – argues that the NCAA failed to conduct their own investigation and based its findings on the report submitted by former FBI Director Louis Freeh. Penn State is not commenting on the move.
