A Cambria County Prison inmate will be charged with criminal homicide later this week after police say he strangled his cellmate over the weekend.
State Police in Ebensburg and District Attorney Kelly Callihan are withholding the inmate’s name until he is formally charged in connection with the death of 27-year-old William Sherry. Troopers say guards at the facility found Sherry dead around 10:00PM Saturday during a routing patrol check.
Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski ruled Sherry’s death a homicide after determining that he had been strangled with a bed sheet. Kwiatkowski says Sherry’s death was the result of an apparent argument between the two men.
Sherry was placed in jail on Wednesday after being arrested on a bench warrant for a probation violation.
