AFD’s Santone to Retire After 47 Years of Service

Altoona Fire Chief Renny Santone says he’s stepping down.

City council is expected to accept Santone’s retirement request at tonight’s meeting. He plans to spend his retirement playing trumpet in his orchestra, attending antique car shows and enjoying his family.

The 70 year old Santone says retirement has been on his mind for several months.

Santone says while he will miss serving the public, he won’t miss his pager going off at 2:00AM. His last day with the city will be August 20th.
