The city of Altoona is trying to decide what they will do about the collection of certain tax money now that a collection company they have been using is closing shop.
News broke over the weekend that Central Tax Bureau of Pennsylvania, otherwise known as Centax, will stop local operations before the fall.
Centax has been used by the city to collect property taxes, business privilege and mercantile taxes since 2006.
City officials, who have not been very happy with the past performance of Centax, will now have to handle the collection process “in house” or hire a another collection company.
We’ll have more on this developing story in the days ahead.
