Altoona City officials say they are expecting a smooth transition as the company collecting their mercantile, property and business privilege taxes begins to close up shop.
Mayor Bill Schirf says city officials were blindsided with word over the weekend that Centax will go out of business. But Schirf said Wednesday the company is selling its contracts to the Bangor-based Berkheimer Associates – a move he welcomes.
Schirf says the city’s management will work closely with both companies to make sure the collection and payment of taxes goes uninterrupted.
