Jobs To be Cut in Blair County Solid Waste Department

With a reserve account running low on funds, officials say the Blair County Solid Waste department will be shut down and a half  dozen employees will be furloughed at the end of the month.

This comes as a result of a 2007 Commonwealth Court decision that put an end to the county receiving revenue from landfill tipping fees.

The Intermunicipal Relations Committee will take on some of the department’s responsibilities and may hire two county workers who are currently employed at the department's yard waste, composting and recycling site.

There will be a public meeting tonight in Logan Township to discuss the future of the county's drop-off recycling program.  The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 at the Logan Township Municipal Building.
