The company that Altoona has been using to collect mercantile, property and business privilege taxes and is now closing up shop is facing a civil complaint filed by the Bellwood-Antis School District.
In the complaint filed in the Blair County Court of Common Pleas, the district is seeking over $124,000 in earned income tax collected by Centax but apparently not transferred to the district tax office. The school district takes half while Bellwood Borough and Antis Township get the other half.
As was the case in Altoona, the Bellwood-Antis school District has had problems with Central Tax Bureau of Pennsylvania Inc. The complaint is being lodged at this time because of the recent news that Centax was shutting down and had entered into an agreement with another company to take over collections.
