Drivers should always use their vehicle’s headlights anytime they encounter fog or other adverse weather conditions to improve visibility and make their vehicle more visible to others. When traveling in dense fog, motorists should use the low beam headlight setting because the high beam setting can cause glare and reduce visibility.
PennDOT also recommends reducing speed and increasing following distance when traveling in dense fog and reminds drivers that under Pennsylvania law, if your wipers are on, your headlights must be on too.
