Update On Reported Abduction Attempt In Altoona

We have an update on the reported abduction attempt earlier this week in Altoona.

City police have issued a statement saying that on Monday they responded to 1700 block of 7th Avenue where a young girl reported that a black male attempted to pull her from the area. The investigation continued throughout the day and led to Brian Lawrence. Lawrence was found to be a Megan’s Law registrant who was currently in violation of the law for failure to report change of address.

Police say that given the circumstances and keeping in mind the safety of children, they got a warrant for his arrest kept investigating the report.

After Lawrence was taken into custody and the investigation progressed, detectives began to have difficulty corroborating various pieces of information that had been obtained. After conducting further interviews and receiving new information it was determined that the arrest warrant should be withdrawn.

At this time Lawrence will be charged with Megan’s Law violations stemming from his failure to report change of address.

City Police now believe the incident involving the young girl is probably related to recent purse snatching incidents in Altoona and not an abduction attempt.
