Three Local Medical Facilities Had Dealings With Company Linked to Fungal Meningitis Outbreak
Information released this week by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration lists three local medical facilities as having received medications from the company linked to the recent fungal meningitis outbreak.
The New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts has been linked to the infections of 317 nationwide, including one local patient. 24-people have died.
Locally, NECC produced medications went to Allegheny Pain Management, Blair Orthopedics Associates, and Altoona Regional Health System.
Up until the new information put out this week, Allegheny Pain Management was the only local facility linked to the outbreak.
The Blair Orthopedics website offers patients information concerning the situation.
Altoona Regional didn’t buy any of the steroids from NECC that has been linked to the outbreak of fungal meningitis but the hospital did purchase hundreds of doses of medications from the troubled company but has pulled the medications out of use.
