Blair Escapes Major Damage From Sandy

It could have been worse.

That’s the way Hurricane Sandy is being viewed today as cleanup and restoration operations continue in Blair County.

On Tuesday Blair County EMA Director Dan Boyles made an appearance on WRTA and said about two dozen structures in the county sustained some sort of damage from the storm but none were deemed inhabitable.

Boyles says a Red Cross shelter, located at the Greenwood Fire Hall on East Pleasant Valley Boulevard is available for anyone who needs a place to go because of the storm.

In addition, two warming centers have been opened. One at the Salvation Army, 1813 6th Avenue in Altoona and one at the Senior Center in Tyrone at 505 3rd Street.

Penelec reports almost 3,400 customers still without power this morning in Blair County, 1,500 in Bedford County. Power for most customers will be restored in the next day or two but some areas will take longer to bring back on line.

Altoona, Antis Township and Snyder Township were hardest hit in Blair County by outages.

I would've just posted this on Facebook, but Facebook doesn't allow you to post GIFs (like this little animation). Maybe the $1.1 BILLION price tag isn't so crazy?
