As life slowly gets back to normal in these days after Hurricane Sandy
Hit the area there are safety tips residents should keep in mind.
When it comes to food safety “When in doubt, throw it out.” If electricity at your home was for more than two hours, throw away foods that can spoil like meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers.
Medication Safety:
If you have medicine that is refrigerated and the electricity at your home has been off for long periods of time, don’t use it and dispose of it properly.
Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning:
If your power is or was out and you’ve other ways to heat or power your home – like generators, camp stoves, etc. – never use them inside your home, basement or attached garage. Also keep them away from windows, doors or vents as this can create carbon monoxide poisoning.
